Women’s Soccer Falls Behind Late, Drops Season Opener to Southern Maine 3-1
The Knights led 1-0 in the middle of the second half, before Southern Maine netted 3 unanswered to take the lead late.
The Knights welcomed the Knights of Southern Maine Community College to Flanagan Campus this past Saturday, in the first game of a double header between the two schools Men’s and Women’s programs. CCRI was active early on defense, leading to multiple opportunities on the offensive end. The 9th minute, Sophomore Abby Stinnette ripped a shot from the right side just inside the 18' that flew up and over perfectly into the top left of the goal, giving the Knights an early 1-0 lead. They would work extremely hard to maintain the lead, as Freshman Goalie Leah Neves protected the effortlessly into the second half net to give the Knights a chance to compete. Unfortunately, Southern Maine’s attack became too relentless, as Annabelle Fournier (66’), Leah Hill (70’) and Jocelyn Civiello (77’) scored three unanswered goals to give Southern Maine the win on the Road, 3-1. The Knights fall to 0-1 on the season.
The next game will take place on Wednesday, 9/11/24 at 4 PM as the Knights head on the road to take on Holyoke Community College.
