Student-Athlete Eligibility
To participate in intercollegiate athletics at the Community College of Rhode Island a student must be
academically eligible in accordance with NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Rules.
Academic eligibility is based on a student-athlete’s number of previous full-time semesters of college
and the number of credits and GPA earned during those semesters.
Student-athletes coming to CCRI directly from High School (Zero previous full-time semesters of college)
are eligible for participation provided they are enrolled in a full-time course load at CCRI during the
semester they wish to participate.
In order to participate in intercollegiate athletics, a student must:
- Be eligible to participate based on number of credits earned and previous full-time
semesters
- Be enrolled full-time (12 credits or more*) during the semester they wish to participate
- Have a signed high school transcript (or GED) on file with athletics office that includes date
of graduation
- Have official transcripts from any and all previous colleges attended sent to CCRI
- Complete necessary medical/insurance paperwork and provide an up-to-date physical**
*Students registered with CCRI DSS office and approved for reduced course load may be
exempt from this requirement. Paperwork needs to be filed with the NJCAA
**Communication must be had with the team’s coach and sports medicine staff to gain
access to required medical forms.
