Knights Battleground Week 15
Women’s Basketball wins 11th straight game with defeat of Southern Maine
Women’s Basketball:
The holiday break concluded for the #8 Knights Women’s Basketball team this past weekend with a game against Southern Maine Community College this past Saturday, January 4th. Coming into the game winners of their last 10, CCRI’s offense has been sizzling. They were able to get it going again in the first half against Southern Maine, jumping out to a 38-27 halftime lead. The Knights defense would lead them the rest of the way, forcing Southern Maine to shoot just 27.3% (21-77) from the field along with a dismal 17% (5-28) behind the arc. In the end, CCRI won the game 79-60. Leading the way for Rhode Island was Angelisse Melendez, who scored an efficient 26 points on 46% shooting. Melendez added 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals to her performance. Stephanie Walker added a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds for Rhode Island.
The #8 Knights have a 3 game home slate ahead of them beginning this week, facing Monroe University - Bronx Thursday at 6:00 PM in Warwick, followed by Central Maine Community College Saturday at 1:00 PM, and ending with Holyoke Community College on Thursday January 16th at 6:00 PM.
Men’s Basketball:
The CCRI Men’s Basketball team enters the second half of the season at 6-6. They will scrimmage against CATS Global School on January 13th to ramp up to resume the season against Holyoke Community College at home on Thursday, January 16th at 8 PM.
