Knights Battleground Week 11
#10 Women's Basketball continues dominant stretch, Men drop a close game, Men's Soccer Clothing Drive
Women’s Basketball:
The 10th ranked Knights had a one game slate this past week on Tuesday, November 26th for a 5:30 tip-off against Roxbury Community College. The Knights jumped out to a strong first quarter lead of 28-7, and never looked back. As they scored another 28 points in the second quarter to go up 56-21 going into the half. The Knights scored 51 more points in the second half while playing remarkable defense and holding Roxbury to 12 points in the second half, for a final score of 107-33.
Leading the Knights to victory was Sydney Waitekus who was the leading scorer with 23 points. Kellylyn Kozlin had 16 points, 6 assist & 6 steals, while Angelisse Melendez recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 assists. Trinity Burk would come off the bench and be a rebound shy from a double-double, adding 22 points & 9 rebounds. The Knights had 6 out of 7 players record 10+ points in their 107-33 win against Roxbury.
The 10th ranked Knights next game will be against Massasoit on Tuesday, December 3rd for a 5:30PM tip-off.
Men’s Basketball:
The Knights, who were looking to end their 3-game losing streak, went to Roxbury Community College for a 7:30 tip-off on Tuesday, November 26th. The Knights would play a back-and-forth 1st half with Roxbury, ending the first half with Roxbury leading 41-34. The game would remain close throughout the second half, as the Knights would outscore Roxbury in the second half 34-33. But that was not enough as Roxbury would win 74-68.
The Knights were led by Jayden Desimone, who once again was the team’s leading scorer with 19 points. Right behind him was Connor Chambers with 16 points and 8 rebounds, 2 shy of a double-double. Another leading scorer was Davante Abney who came off the bench and delivered 13 points.
The Knights’ next game will be against Massasoit on Tuesday, December 3rd for a 7:30PM tip-off.
Player Spotlight: Angelisse Melendez
Melendez, a sophomore, is averaging 12.3 points 4.3 rebounds 6 rebounds and a 49.2 shooting percentage. In the Knights most recent game against Roxbury Melendez recorded her first double-double of the season (17 points & 13 Assist).
Men’s Soccer Coat Drive:
Gabe Toro, head coach of the soccer team, has started a coat drive with his team this past week, and is collecting till Saturday December 7th. All coats will be donated to the Amos house located in providence. You can drop off your coat on Saturday or contact Gabe Toro for more information. So far over 20 coats have been collected!
