Knights Battleground Week 12: #10 Women's Basketball go 2-0, Men break 4 game losing streak
Women’s Basketball:
The 10th ranked Knights had a two-game slate this past week. The first game of the week was held on Thursday, December 5th for a 5:30 PM tip-off against UCONN at Avery Point at Vin Cullen field house. The Knights seemed to be taking care of business as the score at the end of the half was 48-22. The Knights continued their dominate play through the second half and ended up winning 88- 54. The Knights had four players who recorded 10 points or more, Angelisse Melendez had the most with 23 points. Melendez went 7-8 from 3-point range and had 7 rebounds and 6 assist.to go along with her game high 23 points.
The Knights then headed to Orange County College on Saturday, December 7th for a 1:00 PM tip-off. The Knights continued to show their dominance as they cruised their way to a 77-41 victory. The Knights once again had four players who scored 10 or more points, leading in points was once again Angelisse Melendez who had 17 points. Right behind her was Stephanie Walker who had a 15-point double-double.
The 10th ranked Knights are back in action Saturday, December 14th against Bunker Hill at 12:00PM at Vin Cullen Field House.
Men’s Basketball:
The Knights, who were looking to end their 4-game losing streak, went to Massasoit on Tuesday, December 3rd for a 7:30 tip-off. The game was a shootout that came down to the final minutes, resulting in a Knights 88-83 victory over Massasoit. Jayden Desimone would lead the team in scoring with 30 points and 5 threes made. Another great performance came from Connor Chambers who would pick up another 17-point double-double
The Knights would then have two more games in the span of three days, starting with UCONN at Avery Point on Thursday. The Knights would handle business against Avery Point, beating them 81-60. Logan Volker would be the team’s leading scorer with 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 three pointers made. Behind him in scoring was Jayden Desimone who knocked down 6 threes and had 20 points. The Knights would then have to travel to Massbay on Saturday, December 7th for a 12:00PM tip-off. The first half was filled with defense and offensive miscues for both teams, as both teams would be tied up at 29 going into the half. The Knights came out in the second half and exploded on offense, scoring 54 points and counting Massbay’s offense to only 36 points in the second half. Giving The Knights the 83-65 victory over Massbay for their third straight win. Jayden Desimone was The Knights top scorer; he had 29 points with 5 threes made. Behind him was Connor Chambers who had a 14-point double-double.
The Knights are back in action Saturday, December 14th against Bunker Hill at 2:30PM at Vin Cullen Field House.
Player Spotlight: Jayden Desimone
Desimone, a sophomore, averaged 26.3 points during this week’s three game slate. He is also shot 52% from the field and 45% on three point shots. Desimone was also the leading scorer for two out of the three games.
