Knights Battleground Week 9
Women's Soccer Falls in NJCAA Tournament; Men's, Women's Basketball Round-Up
Women’s Basketball
On Thursday, (11/14) the Knights traveled to Quinsigamond Community College to play their first game of the week. The Knights would command the entire game against Quinsigamond by winning 80-35. The Knights had 5 players who scored 10+ points in the game. Sydney Waitekas was the leading scorer with 16pts, followed by Kellylyn Kozlin who had 14pts, and 8 rebounds. The Knights start division conference play at (1-0).
On Saturday, (11/16) the Knights (2-2) hosted Northern Essex Community College for a game of a CCRI doubleheader. The Knights took control early by dominating on defense and taking advantage of points off turnovers. The Knights went into the half with a commanding 24-point lead over Northern Essex, 44-20. Coming out of the half, the Knights put up 29 points in the 3rd quarter, while only giving up 12 points on defense. The Knights won the game against Northern Essex 96-52. The leading scorer for the Knights was Trinity Burk as she recorded a double-double, 17pts & 11 rebounds. Angelisse Melendez and Tatiana Pereira had big games as well with Melendez recording 13pts, 5 rebounds & 5 assists, and Pereira recording 12pts, 8 rebounds & 5 assists. The Knights now (3-2) & (2-0) in division play, will travel to Bristol Community College for their next game on Tuesday, November 19th @ 5:00PM.
Men’s Basketball:
The Men’s team played Quinsigamond in the second game of the doubleheader between CCRI and Quinsigamond on (11/14). The Knights would win 75-57 against Quinsigamond, with Jayden DeSimone being the leading scorer, scoring 32 points.
The Knights’ next game was the second game of the Northern Essex doubleheader on Saturday (11/16). The Knights came out strong and out to a lead, but would be overwhelmed with Northern Essex’s size and matchups falling to Northern Essex 93-68,giving them a 3-2 record on the year. The Knights will travel to Bristol Community College on Tuesday, November 19th @ 7:00PM.

A huge thank you to our Women’s Soccer team as their magical season ended this past week as they fell in the first round of the NJCAA tournament to Delta Community College 6-0.
This was the Women’s second straight Region 21 championship, and NJCAA playoff appearance. The Knights finished the season with a total record of (10-4-3). They will graduate eight sophomores, who include Hailee Mainteiga, Meadow Santos, Herlinda Guitirez, Kylie Brito, Margeory Giron-Reyes, Rosmari Ribera, Ariel O’Brian, & Maria Ochoa.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Jayden Desimone
Jayden Desimone, a Sophomore gaurd, has established himself as a well-polished scorer this season, leading the team in scoring all but 1 game so far this season. After dropping 32 on Quinsigamond, Desimone finshed the week with a scoring average of 23.4 points per game, leading the Knights to some key wins early on. Desimone is looking to bring the Knights to a playoff appearance in a top heavy region, and will look to continue his 2024 campaign against Bristol CC on Tuesday night.
