This past Saturday, October 4th, CCRI Women's Soccer hosted the Bunker Hill Bulldogs in their last home game of the regular season, and celebrated their graduating sophomore class.
This years class consisted of 6 sophomores, all whom have returned for a 2nd season with the Knights. The group has written quite the story in CCRI's history book, as they helped lead the team to a 2nd straight Nationals Appearance last season, and have come back in search of another run. Sophomore Captain Leah Neves recorded a career high 30 saves in their Nationals appearance last fall, a performance that earned her an all-tournament team selection, while Mayah Santos was named All-Region. The group has achieved more than most in CCRI's history.
Before the game started, Sophomores Leah Neves, Mayah Santos, Kassidy Sisco, Minny Hunt, Ashanty Flores, and Abby Stinnette were honored for their wonderful Knights Careers.
As the game began, CCRI quickly settled into attack mode against a wear Bunker Hill defense. About 15 mimnutes into the game, Bunker Hill had not controlled the ball really at all, and quickly realized their best strategy was to defend the net. CCRI relentlessly would knive through 9 defensive players in the box for 6 goals in the game, but not without a valient effort. The first goal came from a corner kick, where the ball was crossed in after a few short passes, and after three shots, Sophomore Kassidy Sisco got a nice roll off the grass to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. About 10 minutes later. Mayah Santos split a ball beautifully between defenders to Gianna Zarr who made a great run and finished the shot over the goalkeepers fingertips. Knights lead 2-0. Alanna Pereira got in on the action, settling a cross from Mayah Santos and finshed strongly with the right foot to make it a 3-0 game at half. This was also Mayah Santos' 2nd assist in the game. In the second half, CCRI continued to chip away at the Bulldogs back line and get as many shots on goal as they could. Kassidy Sisco would score her second goal of the day with a nice shot from outside the box that floated perfectly into the back of the net, and teammates Emely Carreon and Hannah Carlotto would poke through the Bunker Hill defense to cap off the win on Sophomore day, with the final score being 6-0.
